3/2/2024 0 Comments AutoMounter for ipod instalWith Automounter, my shares stay mounted (or very quickly remount upon waking the Mac) regardless of how long the Mac and/or the drives on the NAS have been asleep. Appears to be a macOS problem with SMB shares. Devices are now automatically mounted when they are accessed, they will remain mounted as long as you access them. automount: files When you are done configuring your templates (see below), launch the AutoFS daemon as root by enabling and starting the rvice. This wont help with sleep/wake cycles loosing the connection. I just installed Xfce4 from a very base install, and it didnt originally have automount for my external drives(including ipod). Now create a directory for Autofs to mount the filesystems. As we can see above we have two NFS exports i.e. To check the NFS exports just run the below command. Navigate to the directory you want to mount and this will now auto mount on every start. Here we are going to use NFS exported shares with Autofs to automatically mount it. It is based on a kernel module for high efficiency, and can manage both local directories and network shares. Disconnecting from the share (in Finder) would similarly hang. Open the file /etc/nf and add an entry for automount. You can mount it by going to Settings > Users & Groups > Login Items then click the +. autofs is a program that automatically mounts specified directories on an on-demand basis. Before installing Automounter, at least one of the mounts (but generally not all 3) would randomly become unresponsive after some period of sleep it would still appear in Finder, but the folder would appear to be empty, and if an application tried to access it (Time Machine, iTunes, or Carbon Copy Cloner, depending on the share), the application would go into an unrecoverable hang (Mac would hang during attempted force quit and restart, requiring a hard reset). Running Mojave on my iMac, I use several SMB3 shares on my Synology NAS that need to stay mounted for periodic access, one is for Time Machine, one has my iTunes database, and one is used for backups (running Mojave on my iMac).
